What is Scat?
Scat is a water-soluble powder developed to repel birds and animals from eating valuable fruit crops and ornamentals. Its bitter taste deters a wide variety of birdlife, domestic pets, rats, possums, and rabbits. While not 100% effective in every situation—since all birds and animals react differently to environmental pressures—persistence is key to success. Scat is most effective when used alongside other methods, such as providing an alternative food source for the animals. -
Is it safe?
Yes, Scat is a low-hazard formulation that is completely harmless to living creatures and humans when used as directed. It has no withholding period and can be easily washed off before eating fruit. Note: It is not recommended to mix Scat with other chemicals, and it may stain some surfaces. Always test on a small area first. -
How long does it last?
Once applied, Scat remains active for up to eight weeks and leaves no harmful residues. It can be removed with watering or heavy rain, but using a wetter sticking agent will help it remain effective in damp conditions. -
How far does it go?
Scat is mixed at a rate of 50g per litre of hot water, with 1kg enough to treat up to 600 square metres. -
When do I apply it?
Apply Scat before a problem occurs or as soon as you notice the first signs of damage. For resistant animals, stronger solutions can be used initially, with treatments repeated more frequently. Once the initial problem is under control, you can switch to a half-strength solution for ongoing maintenance. Ensure new growth is protected with repeat applications as necessary.
